Reset your iPhone before selling: 4 steps

Follow the 4 steps below to reset your iPhone before selling it.
  1. Back up your data Make sure you don’t lose any important info when resetting your iPhone. Always back up first using iCloud or iTunes.
    • via iCloud: Go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > iCloud Backup > Back Up Now.
    • via iTunes: Connect your iPhone to a computer, open iTunes, select your iPhone, and choose 'Back Up Now'.
  2. Sign out of iCloud On your iPhone, go to Settings and tap your name at the top. Scroll down and tap 'Sign Out'. Then enter your Apple ID password and tap 'Turn Off'.
  3. Turn off ‘Find My iPhone’ Before resetting your iPhone, it’s important to turn off ‘Find My iPhone’. Go to Settings > [your name] > Find My > Find My iPhone. Toggle it off.
  4. Erase your iPhone / reset to factory settings Once everything’s ready, you can erase your iPhone and return it to factory settings. Go to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. You may be asked to enter your passcode and Apple ID password to confirm.

After these steps, your iPhone is reset to factory settings and ready for sale. Make sure to remove your SIM card if it’s still inside.
